The Basics of Project Management

NQF level 4 skills programme

Brief Description:

This is a NQF level 4 skills programme which is aimed at training participants on the basics of Project Management, focusing on project initiation, planning and implementation.

Entry Level Requirements:

Communication, Mathematical Literacy and Computer Literacy at NQF Level 3 and/or Grade 11.

Target Market:

The programme caters for the current and future needs of those working on projects in a general skill set, that is not sector specific.

Duration:

The programme consists of 8 days of training, either online or classroom based. A total of 290 notional hours must be accounted for to be declared competent for this skills programme.

Exit Outcomes:

The competent learner will be capable of:

  • Contributing to the identification and co-ordination of stakeholders, their roles, needs and expectations.
  • Contributing to the identification, description and analysis of the project needs, expectations, constraints, assumptions, exclusions, inclusions and deliverables.
  • Contributing to preparing and producing inputs to be used for further planning activities.
  • Contributing to monitoring the achievement of the project’s scope.
  • Identifying, explaining and describing the purpose and process of scheduling project activities.
  • Defining and gathering project activities from technical experts and within own field expertise.
  • Developing a simple schedule for a project or part thereof.
  • Identifying and recognising potential risks that could affect project performance.
  • Contributing to the assessment of the impact and likelihood of identified risks.
  • Contributing to the development of risk management statements and plans.
  • Monitoring and controlling the project risks.
  • Identifying elements and resources to be costed through interpreting the project scope statement, work breakdown structure and other project data.
  • Participating in the preparation and production of a cost budget.
  • Contributing to the monitoring and controlling of cost budget performance by maintaining records and communicating.
  • Describing and explaining the need for consistent processes and standards to achieve quality.
  • Suggesting actions, within own field of expertise, in support of the development of quality project deliverables.

Conducting tests as per test plan and communicating test results.
